How to create your HMRC account

Follow these easy steps to create your HMRC account and complete the process for UK compliance.

Step 1: Visit the HMRC Portal

  1. Open your web browser and go to this link:
    https://www.access.service.gov.uk/login/signin/creds 

Step 2: Select "Create Sign In Details"

  1. On the portal page, look for and click the "Create sign in details" option. This will start the process of setting up your HMRC account.

Step 3: Enter Your Email Address

  1. You will be prompted to enter an email address. This should be the email address you would like to use for UK compliance purposes (make sure it's one you can access).

  2. Once entered, click "Continue".

Step 4: Receive Your Share Code

  1. A share code will be sent to the email address you provided.

  2. Go to your email inbox, open the email from HMRC, and retrieve the share code.

Step 5: Enter the Share Code

  1. Return to the HMRC portal and enter the share code you received in the email.

  2. Click "Continue" to proceed.

Step 6: Enter Your Business Name

  1. Next, you'll be asked to enter your full business name

  2. Enter your business name carefully and click "Continue".

Step 7: Create a Secure Password

  1. Now, it's time to create a password for your account.

    • Follow the instructions provided on the screen to ensure your password meets security standards.

    • The password should be strong, typically requiring a mix of letters, numbers, and special characters.

  2. After entering your password, click "Continue".

Step 8: Your Gateway ID

  1. Once you've completed the process, your Gateway ID will be displayed on the screen, and an automated email will be sent by HMRC with your Gateway ID for your records.

  2. Make sure to write down or save your Gateway ID in a secure place for future reference, as you'll need it for accessing your account and services.
