Taxually uses the UTC timezone for all tax returns. UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) is linked to Greenwich Mean Time and serves as an international standard, which allows us to maintain a consistent global approach. When reconciling your tax returns with your Stripe Tax account, ensure that you select the UTC timezone to avoid discrepancies (see screenshot below).
Why does this matter?
Using UTC means that transactions occurring late in the evening in certain time zones may be recorded on a different date. For example, if a transaction takes place in California (PST) at 11:00 PM on March 31, this would be 6:00 AM on April 1 in UTC. As a result, this transaction will appear with a date of April 1 when using UTC, even though it was made locally on March 31.
This difference in dates can impact your reconciliation if you aren't accounting for the timezone change, which is why it’s important to align your records to UTC when reviewing your tax data.
